{"id":10919,"date":"2016-05-24T15:38:34","date_gmt":"2016-05-24T21:38:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.rosebrookmedia.com\/colorado\/orchestra\/gerald-scholl\/"},"modified":"2025-06-08T17:15:51","modified_gmt":"2025-06-08T23:15:51","slug":"gerald-scholl","status":"publish","type":"orchestra_members","link":"https:\/\/coloradomusicfestival.org\/orchestra_members\/gerald-scholl\/","title":{"rendered":"Gerald Scholl"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Originally from Massachusetts, <strong>Gerald Scholl<\/strong> received his Bachelors Degree in performance at Boston University and Masters Degree at New England Conservatory of Music studying with Tom Gauger and Vic Firth respectively.\u00a0In 2003, Gerald joined the Wichita Symphony Orchestra (WSO) as Principal Timpanist\/Principal Percussionist. He has also held principal positions with the Israel Chamber Orchestra, Rhode Island Philharmonic, Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra (Canada), and the Tulsa Philharmonic.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Upon winning New England Conservatory of Music\u2019s Concerto Competition, Mr. Scholl was invited to perform Paul Creston\u2019s <em>Concertino for Marimba <\/em>with the Moscow Conservatory Orchestra at the inaugural American Music Festival in Moscow, Russia. While in Moscow he premiered his own compositions, as well as the Russian premier of Echoi by Lucus Foss. Since then he has enjoyed considerable success as a soloist, performing in Spain, Israel, Japan, Canada and the U.S.A.. \u00a0Mr. Scholl\u2019s television performances include the Canadian premiere of Russell Peck\u2019s percussion concerto<em> \u201cThe Glory and the Grandeur\u201d<\/em>, and <em>Kettlestring: Bach to the Future<\/em>. In his short tenure with the Wichita Symphony Gerald has twice been a featured soloist.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>As a drummer, Mr. Scholl has had the pleasure of performing with, the Count Basie Orchestra under Frank Foster, national touring Broadway musicals including Titanic, and Big River, Carnival Cruise Line big bands, and was the featured drummer with the Jewish Rock Band Safam on six of their CD\u2019s. While living in Spain he performed regularly with the jazz trio Tres En Raya. He has also had the opportunity to perform with Frank Sinatra Jr., Michael Feinstein, and Marvin Hamlish. Most recently Mr. Scholl performed with the internationally acclaimed jazz artist James Morrison.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>In addition to his position with Wichita State University, Mr. Scholl holds the titled chairs of Principal Timpanist with the new Tulsa Symphony and Tulsa Ballet Orchestras, and Assistant Principal with the Colorado Music Festival.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>As an educational artist and clinician for the Zildjian Cymbal Company; Grover Pro-Percussion; Remo Inc.; and most recently the Pearl\/Adams, Mr. Scholl presents master classes and clinics at schools and universities throughout the Midwest.
